What is Spinal Flow Technique and How Does it Work?

What Is Spinal Flow Technique, and How Does It Work?

Your body has an innate intelligence whose first job is to keep you safe. When you experience stress you can’t fully process, say a big emotional event, a physical trauma, or a prolonged period of fight-or-flight, that intelligence responds by creating areas of bracing or blockages along the spine. These blockages impede the flow of information between your central nervous system and your organs, endocrine system, tissues, and fascia  holding the body in a protective stance, long after the original stressor has passed.

How Blockages Build Over Time

Blockages tend to accumulate much like a pile-up on a highway… one incident creates the first blockage, and if it isn’t released, every subsequent unprocessed stress or emotion builds on top of it. Someone who has spent twenty or thirty years holding onto unexpressed emotion may be carrying significant accumulated tension in a single area of the spine, the body’s way of protecting itself, layer by layer. Left unaddressed, this can eventually show up as physical symptoms or diagnoses, even though the root often began years earlier as something emotional or energetic.

How Spinal Flow Works

Spinal Flow connects to specific access points along the spine through focused, gentle touch. This physical connection communicates directly with the part of the nervous system that signals safety to the brain and once the brain and body register that it’s safe, they can begin to unwind and release whatever has been held: physically, emotionally, or chemically.

This is a deeply gentle, non-forceful modality. It’s suitable for virtually everyone, including babies. Sessions are quiet and reflective rather than conversational. I may offer verbal cues along the way, like inviting you to take a deep breath or reminding your body that it’s safe to let go, but there’s no talk therapy or analysis involved. Clients are welcome to share anything that comes up for them, but the work happens through the body, not through conversation.

What a Session Looks Like

Every new client begins with a full intake and assessment, where I evaluate what’s being held in the body and recommend an approach, including how often sessions might be beneficial, whether that’s weekly for more significant patterns or every couple of weeks for general maintenance and stress support. From there, individual sessions are typically 30 minutes. During a session, I make gentle contact with specific points along the spine. Most of the time is spent at the sacrum and the head areas.

Because blockages build up over time, release also happens over time. This isn’t a one-time fix. It’s similar in that way to chiropractic care: a single session creates a shift, but the body continues to unwind and rebuild ease with each subsequent visit. Unlike some other approaches, though, Spinal Flow isn’t about temporarily realigning something that will simply drift back, each session builds on the last, gradually restoring flow and ease that becomes more lasting over time. For those committed to ongoing care, package pricing is available to make consistent sessions more accessible.

Gentle Enough for Babies

Because Spinal Flow is so gentle, it’s especially well-suited for babies and mothers — including supporting babies through stress or misalignment following birth, sometimes called birth trauma. Babies respond remarkably quickly to this work; without decades of accumulated stress held in the body, what might take an adult months or years to release can often shift in a baby in a matter of weeks. Starting life without unresolved tension held in the spine can offer a gentle, supportive foundation from the very beginning.

A Note on Safety

Spinal Flow is one of the gentlest modalities I offer, and it’s appropriate for nearly everyone. The exception is for individuals experiencing seizures or psychosis — in these cases, this modality is not recommended and I’ll always prioritize your safety in determining the right approach for you.

If this resonates with you, I’d love to support you through this work.
