How to Know if a Healing Modality is Right for you.

How to Know If a Healing Modality Is Right for You

If you’ve ever scrolled past a post about energy work, sound healing, or Spinal Flow Technique and thought “that sounds interesting, but is it actually for me?” you’re not alone. Most people who eventually walk through the door of a healing practice spent months, sometimes years, circling the idea first.

There’s no perfect checklist that tells you “yes, this is the one.” But there are some honest questions you can ask yourself, and a few signs worth paying attention to.

I’ll say this upfront: I’m a skeptic & I always have been and honestly, I hope I always will be. Everything I’ve thrown myself into over the years… BodyTalk, Spinal Flow, Theta Healing, Reiki, Cardinal Method of Life Connection, Sound Healing with Tuning Forks, started with curiosity and questioning, not blind faith. I needed to feel it for myself before I believed in it. But once you’ve had an experience that changes something in you, you can’t unknow it. That’s what happened to me, session after session, over years of my own healing. Skepticism didn’t disqualify me from this work. It’s actually what led me to it.

You’ve Tried the Obvious Things and Something’s Still Off

Maybe you’ve done talk therapy. Maybe you eat well, move your body, sleep enough. And still, there’s a tightness in your chest that doesn’t have a clear cause, or a pattern in your life that keeps repeating no matter how much you understand it intellectually.

This is often the first sign someone is ready for body based or energy work: not that other approaches failed, but that they addressed the mind and left the body out of the conversation. Healing modalities like BodyTalk, Spinal Flow, or Inherited Release Method work with what the body is holding directly, rather than only what you can think or talk your way through.

You’re Curious, Not Just Skeptical

Skepticism is healthy. But there’s a difference between “I don’t believe in this” and “I don’t understand this, and I want to.” If you’re the second one, even quietly, even if you haven’t told anyone, that curiosity is worth listening to. It’s usually a sign your system already senses there’s something here for you.

You Feel Drawn to a Specific Practitioner or Approach

Sometimes it’s not the modality itself that matters most at first, it’s who’s offering it. If you find yourself rereading someone’s story, watching their videos, or feeling a sense of calm just from how they talk about their work, that’s meaningful information. Trust and safety with a practitioner often matter more than which technique they use, especially in the beginning.

You’re Willing to Not Have It All Figured Out

Healing work like this doesn’t always come with a tidy explanation of what happened or why. A session might leave you feeling lighter without being able to say exactly how. If you need certainty and a clear cause & effect story before you’ll try something, that’s okay, it might mean the timing isn’t right yet. But if you can hold a little openness, even alongside doubt, that’s often enough to start.

It Doesn’t Have to Be Forever

One of the biggest misconceptions is that trying a modality means committing to a whole belief system or lifestyle. It doesn’t. You can come in for one session, notice how you feel, and decide from there. Nothing about walking into a healing space obligates you to anything beyond showing up for yourself that one time.

It Doesn’t Replace What Already Helped You, It Supports It

Talk therapy did a lot for me. So did naturopathic care, acupuncture, and chiropractic work. I don’t think energy work is meant to replace any of that — I think it’s meant to work alongside it.

Here’s something I’ve seen happen again and again, both in my own healing and with clients: sometimes the body needs to feel safe before a person can actually voice what’s been stuck. A part of someone might be inaccessible in a talk therapy session simply because the body hasn’t felt safe enough yet to let it surface. When energy work happens first, or in between, it can open that door. The words that couldn’t come out before suddenly can.

That’s the piece I wish more people understood. It’s not “this modality instead of that one.” It’s Physio, Chiro, Acupuncture, Massage, Talk Therapy, and Energy work all leaning in and supporting each other, treating the whole person instead of compartmentalizing the body into separate rooms.

Staying open to that bigger picture is often what makes real, lasting change possible.

The Real Question to Ask

Instead of “is this modality legitimate” or “will this definitely work,” a more useful question might be:

what happens in my body when I imagine trying it?

Notice if there’s a pull toward it, even a small one, underneath any hesitation. That pull is often more reliable than logic alone in telling you it’s worth exploring.

If you’re curious about what a session actually looks like, or want to ask questions before booking anything, that’s always welcome. You don’t need to have it all figured out first, that’s what the sessions are for.
